TaylorMade Fairway Woods Overview

While many golfers underestimate the importance of fairway woods, TaylorMade certainly doesn’t. The California-based equipment giant consistently produces 3-, 5-, 7- and 9-woods that are every bit as innovative as its drivers, hybrids and irons. Of course, that’s exactly what you’d expect from the company that pioneered the category.

TaylorMade fairway woods – or, if you prefer, fairway metals – are noted for their hot clubfaces, high-launch properties and excellent forgiveness on miss-hits. You’ll find them in play on every professional tour worldwide, with superstars like Dustin Johnson, Rory McIlroy and John Rahm relying on their performance.

Here’s a look at the current lineup of TaylorMade fairway woods, which you’ll find here at GlobalGolf.

TaylorMade SIM Fairway Woods (2020)

New for 2020, this label includes TaylorMade’s SIM, SIM Max, SIM Max D (as in “draw) and matching women’s models. What do they have in common? Multi-material construction, a V-Steel sole design and TaylorMade’s Twist Face engineering. Together, these features promote a super-high launch from turf or tee; smooth turf interaction for solid contact from a range of lies; and superior accuracy on shots struck on the heel or toe.

TaylorMade M5 and M6 Fairway Woods (2019)

TaylorMade M5 and M6 fairway woods

The first fairway woods to feature Twist Face technology, the TaylorMade M5 and M6 fairway woods promise exceptionally straight distance. The M5 also boasts a moveable, 65-gram weight, which allows you to adjust for a preferred ball flight. Golfers who like the sound and feel of titanium may go for the M5, while the M6 appeals to those who want a slightly deeper clubface.

TaylorMade M3 and M4 Fairway Woods (2018)

TaylorMade M3 fairway wood

These popular models feature an ultra-light, five-layer carbon crown, which pushes down the center of gravity for a higher launch. For adjustability, the TaylorMade M3 fairway wood offers a 12-position loft sleeve, letting you incrementally change the loft by up to +/- 2 degrees. A sole weight is also included for those who like to alter ball flight (fade, neutral, draw) based on their swing or conditions. The M4 fairway has won fans with its sound and feel, enhanced by a steel face insert and fluted hosel.

TaylorMade M1 and M2 Fairway Woods (2017)

The M1 fairway wood was the company’s first with multi-material construction. What does that mean for golfers? Weight distribution well down in the clubhead for optimal launch conditions (height and spin). The M1 is also adjustable. Meanwhile, TaylorMade’s M2 fairway woods brought both Speed Pocket and Inverted Cone technology to the category. Benefits include a boost in ball speed (i.e., distance) from the fairway or off the tee.
