Excellent Clubs for intermediate player
By Jeremy B on 2/15/2016

Handicap: 11-15  Plays Golf: I play weekly  Dexterity: Left Hand

I was very pleased with this line from TaylorMade. These clubs are excellent for the intermediate player. They are very forgiving and live up to the name Speedblade. These clubs have a mid level launch to them and a large face providing an even bigger "sweet spot." Distance is the game with these clubs. 5-20 more yards on average is what I've been getting out of them. Prior to purchasing these I played with the RBZ series and after making the switch my handicap improved tremendously. I would recommend the Speedblade series to any beginner/intermediate golfer looking to get a foot in the door for a "higher end" club set. The Speedblade irons compliment the SLDR and AeroBurner woods/hybrids perfectly in my opinion. The Speedbalde features a lot of the technology TaylorMade went to with their higher end clubs but not at that high price. Well worth the purchase.

Great clubs and great Global Golf Price
By Duffer on 12/14/2014

Handicap: 21+  Plays Golf: I play more than once a week  Dexterity: Right Hand

As a senior golfer, I upgraded from TM Rocketballz to the Speedblade. What I found besides now hitting irons into our par 3s instead of hybrids, is these irons are very accurate. They go where you aim them. I normally shot mid 90s, but in
the 12 rounds I have played with these irons, I have already had 3 rounds in the 80s. GG also gave me a great price and a speedy delivery.

I love the compact short irons and super easy to hit long irons. Lovely feel throughout the set as well. Wish the stock shaft was more appealing though!

Forgiving irons without the clunky
By Daniel J. on 3/13/2015
2 out of 2 people found this review helpful.

I'm a second year golfer who typically shoots low 90s, so I need a forgiving game improvement club, but I was tired of looking down at the big clunky clubhead on my previous set of GI irons. TaylorMade did a great job slimming down the appearance of the top line of this club, and the head looks quite a bit more compact at address than a lot of irons in the game improvement category. These clubs had considerably less offset than my previous irons, which felt a little more natural to me. I also like that the approach wedge plays and looks like a real wedge, not just a higher lofted version of the cavity back irons.

The sound and feel of the Speedblades at impact is unique; I'd describe a well hit shot as a pleasant "pop" or "click". As with a lot of game impovement irons, feedback on off-center hits is a little muted, but still apparent.

The steel shafts on the Speedblades are noticeably lighter than most. I'm sure everyone is different, but for me, the lighter shaft feels fast without too much effort, so it helps reduce my instinct to swing a little too hard.

The Speedblades maybe are a touch less forgiving as some other irons in the game improvement category, but are a good choice for the mid-high handicapper who doesn't want to feel like they're swinging a big paddle of a club.

Also - kudos to GlobalGolf for their customer service on this order. When I found some shaft damage under the grip of one of my clubs during re-gripping, they switched it out quickly with no hassle. They've become my first choice for all my golf equipment.

TaylorMade SpeedBlades 4-AW
By Dan B on 4/21/2016
1 out of 1 people found this review helpful.

I bought these clubs in very good condition, with stiff flex, steel shafts. They were received in great condition with fast shipping. I wanted something a little more forgiving than my R9 irons, and these are great. Excellent feel to them, can still maneuver the ball, but forgiving on mishits.

Technology / Specs

TaylorMade conducted an industry-wide search of golfers with handicaps ranging from five to twenty five to find out how they contact the clubface at impact. Results revealed that 72% of those golfers consistently impacted the ball lower on the clubface. Striking the golf ball low on the clubface led to decreased ball speeds, a lower initial launch, and more importantly a loss of distance. To help golfers combat this problem, TaylorMade decided to showcase their research with an innovative and creative new product: the SpeedBlade irons.

SpeedBlade Technology

The main innovative design that contributes to the performance of the SpeedBlade irons is the Speed Pocket, first introduced by TaylorMade into irons in last year's RocketBladez irons.

The Speed Pocket is a deep slot that has been cut the length of the sole, from heel-to-toe and filled with polyurethane which enhances the sound and feel of the golf club. The Speed Pocket allows the clubface to flex at impact, and therefore rebound energy to the golf ball faster than ever before. Having the Speed Pocket stretched from the heel-to-toe of the sole creates overall higher and consistent ball speeds.

The SpeedBlade 3- through 7-irons utilize the Speed Pocket, which enhances the ball speed and creates a higher launch angle, making these longer irons easier to hit. The combination of faster ball speeds and higher launch angles translates to greater distance on all shots.

The clubface of the SpeedBlade is extremely thin, measuring a mere 1.5 millimeters thick. This ultra-thin structure produces ball speeds faster than any previous TaylorMade irons. The clubhead features a deep undercut on the backside of the cavity, which aids in creating higher and longer-carrying ball flights.

The center of gravity (CG) in the SpeedBlade iron has been lowered compared to its predecessors. This lowered CG is made possible by the creation of the ultra-thin face, which results in more discretionary weight available which TaylorMade then positioned lower in the clubhead. Lowering the CG immediately increases the launch angle when striking the golf ball. This increase in launch angle leads to an efficient ball flight that maximizes the carry and overall distance of each shot.

Design

The SpeedBlade iron features less offset and a thinner topline throughout each iron compared to other TaylorMade irons. These enhancements to the appearance of the golf club make this iron visually appealing to all golfers. The blue and smoke satin color scheme and graphics look smart and understated without being dull or plain.

The SpeedBlade iron set includes eight clubs, most commonly the 4-iron through gap wedge. The standard set come with 85 gram steel shafts, available in stiff or regular flexes. TaylorMade is also offering the SpeedBlades with graphite shaft options as well, with weights and flexes of 75g for stiff, 65g for regular, 55g for senior, or 45g for ladies flex.

TaylorMade golf is leading the way in the advancement of iron technology with the release of the SpeedBlade irons. If you’re in the majority of golfers (and according to TaylorMade you are), you need the performance that come from these irons. These SpeedBlade irons will increase your ball speed and launch angle for longer, higher shots that will stop faster and closer to the hole. Don’t miss out on the remarkable technology these irons have to offer.
