Pro Tip: Mizuno T24 Wedges – The Ultimate Guide

When you think of precision and power close to the green, Mizuno wedges definitely come to mind.

This decades-old company has a long history of producing high-quality, forged clubs that offer exceptional feel, control and performance. And Mizuno’s T-Series wedges are no exception – they’ve been trusted by many tour players and amateurs alike for their versatility and precision around the greens.

2023 brings a new suite of T-series wedges – the Mizuno T24 Wedges. These performance-boosting wedges put innovation to the test, making for a set of clubs that can significantly impact your game as you get closer to the tee.

Let’s dive into the Mizuno T24 wedges to find the right fit for your game.

Mizuno T-Series Line: Precision at Your Fingertips

The Mizuno T-Series line of wedges was launched in 2019 with the introduction of the T20 wedges. These wedges were designed to offer consistent spin, feel and distance control across a variety of conditions and shots. They featured a classic shape, a forged construction and an innovative patented Quad Cut Groove technology that optimized each loft's groove shape and width.

In 2020, Mizuno released the T22 wedges, which improved on the T20 wedges by adding a new Hydroflow Micro Groove design that enhanced the spin performance in wet conditions.

In 2021, Mizuno unveiled the T24 wedges, the most refined and advanced wedges in the T-Series line. The T24 wedges feature subtle changes to the head's shape, size and weight distribution, and a new Quad Cut+ Groove technology that increases the spin rates and groove density.

Advanced Technology in the Mizuno T-Series Golf Wedges

The Mizuno T-Series line of wedges incorporates several innovative technologies that enhance their performance and feel. Here are some of the key features that make these wedges unique:

    • Grain Flow Forged HD: All Mizuno T-Series wedges are forged from a single billet of 1025E pure select mild carbon steel at Mizuno’s iconic facility in Hiroshima, Japan. This process ensures precise shaping and an unrivaled touch around the green. The forging process also incorporates boron, a material that increases the strength of the steel by 30%, allowing for thinner faces and more aggressive grooves.
    • Quad Cut Groove Technology: Mizuno’s patented groove technology optimizes each loft's groove shape and width, creating more spin and control on full and partial shots. The grooves are CNC milled to ensure consistency and accuracy. The Quad Cut Groove technology also includes Hydroflow Micro Grooves, laser etched on the face to release moisture and reduce spin drop-off in wet conditions.
    • Spin-Weighted Blade Design: Mizuno’s engineers have flared the upper portion of the blade to create higher spin and penetrating trajectory, especially from strikes high on the clubface. This design also improves the stability and forgiveness of the wedges by increasing the moment of inertia (MOI).

What’s New in the 2023 Mizuno Wedge Set?

The 2023 Mizuno T24 wedges are the most advanced and refined wedges in the T-Series line. They feature subtle improvements to the shape, size and weight distribution and a new Quad Cut+ Groove technology that increases the spin rates and groove density.

The shape of the T24 wedges has been refined by reducing the width of the top line and shortening the blade length. This creates a more compact profile that appeals to better players who prefer a cleaner look at address. The shorter blade length also frees up more mass to be positioned higher in the head, which enhances the spin performance and trajectory control.

The size of the T24 wedges has been reduced by about 10% compared to the previous models in the T-Series line. This makes them more maneuverable and easier to control in tight lies and rough conditions. The size reduction also improves the turf interaction and reduces the drag of the wedges through the grass.

The weight distribution of the T24 wedges has been optimized by using a forged weight pad in the back cavity. This allows Mizuno to precisely adjust the COG and MOI of each wedge to match the loft and bounce profile. The weight pad also adds to the solid feel and sound of the wedges at impact.

The Quad Cut+ Groove technology of the T24 wedges is an evolution of the Quad Cut Groove technology that was used in the previous models. The new technology involves adjusting the groove shoulder's camber and the groove profile's taper, allowing Mizuno to move the grooves closer together and increase the groove density. This results in more spin and control on all shots, especially on partial swings and delicate shots around the green.

The T24 wedges are available in five sole profiles, each with an extra bounce angle and relief pattern. The sole profiles are designed to suit different swing types, attack angles, turf conditions and shot preferences. Here is a brief description of each sole profile:

    • S-Profile: Offering high bounce with limited relief, the S-Profile is ideal for full shots from firm turf or bunkers.
    • D-Profile: Offering mid bounce with moderate relief, the D-Profile is ideal for gentle manipulation of the face angle from various lies.
    • C-Profile: Providing mid-to-high bounce with generous relief, the C-Profile is ideal for a wide range of players and conditions, with significantly softer turf or bunkers.
    • V-Profile: Providing high bounce with aggressive relief, the V-Profile is ideal for versatility on square and open-faced shots from steeper attack angles.
    • X-Profile: Offering low bounce with aggressive relief, the X-Profile is ideal for advanced players who want maximum versatility and manipulation from shallow attack angles.

The T24 wedges also come in three different finish options, each with a different aesthetic and performance characteristic. The finish options are:

    • Soft White Satin
    • Denim Copper
    • Tour Raw

Mizuno Wedge Sets in 2023: How Do They Compare to the Past?

The 2023 Mizuno T24 wedges are the latest iteration of the T-Series line, which started with the T20 wedges in 2019 and continued with the T22 wedges in 2020. The T24 wedges are not a radical departure from the previous models, but rather a refinement and improvement of their features and performance.

The main differences between the T24 wedges and the previous models are:

    • The shape of the T24 wedges is more compact and refined, with a thinner top line and a shorter blade length.
    • The size of the T24 wedges is smaller by about 10%, making them more maneuverable and easier to control.
    • The weight distribution of the T24 wedges is more optimized, with a forged weight pad in the back cavity that adjusts the COG and MOI for each loft and bounce profile.
    • The Quad Cut+ Groove, technology of the T24 wedges, is more advanced, with an adjustment of the groove shoulder camber and taper that allows for more spin and control on all shots.
    • The sole profiles of the T24 wedges are more diverse, with five options that suit different swing types, attack angles, turf conditions and shot preferences.
    • The finish options of the T24 wedges are more varied, with three choices offering different aesthetic and performance characteristics.
