M5 Tour Driver Penetrating Low Spinner
By Wade T on 9/13/2020

Plays Golf: I play more than once a week  Dexterity: Right Hand

Not all will like the M5 Tour driver because of the size of the head and super low spin but I do. It seems like the clubhead cuts through the air with pleasing sound that ends in the classic carbon clubhead "thwack'! You can easy get shapes out of this driver where most high MOI or higher spin drivers will just want to go straight. The M5 tour is fairly forgiving but nothing like the standard M5 Tour. The 435cc is the smallest I have seen recently, as I used the Ping G400 (445cc) driver for awhile. I am told the face is square on the M5 Tour but the club looks and lays open at address, I love it! It looks more open than the Ping G400. You might get more distance and definitely more forgiveness from the standard M5 driver. The ball flight from the M5 Tour is penetrating with less spin so make sure you get the right shaft for your swing. This driver is not for everyone but the people who need a driver that they can shape their shots or keep the flight low and penetrating into the fairway will love it.

Handicap: 0-5  Plays Golf: I play more than once a week  Dexterity: Right Hand

Purchased the “very good” condition m5 tour and it looked almost brand new. There was a small scuff near the serial number, that doesn’t effect play, but besides that, it looks like it was used twice at the range. Hits beautifully, I am much more consistently accurate and I actually gained about 5 yards.

I researched all the drivers before making this purchase. I had never had an adjustable driver before and called for assistance. I was surprised the young man I spoke to was not from a call center far far away. He really did not assist me with my issue but I am killing the ball after a co worker and former golf coach guided me.

M5 Tour Driver Overview

Face of M5 Driver

Speed Injected

TaylorMade is doing something revolutionary for the M5 driver. As you look at the club face, you’ll notice 2 screws, one near the toe and one near the heel. These are used to inject tuning resin into each head to optimize the COR across the face. The result is ball speed as close to the USGA limit as possible, which translates to more distance.

View of Face from Toe Angle showing Twist Face

Twist Face

Twist Face™ technology returns to the M5 driver, delivering straighter shots. The face of the driver is curved to reduce the effect of off-center hits. The high-toe area of the face is curved slightly open with more left. This corrects for a low, hooking shot. Conversely, the low-heel area is curved closed with less loft, correcting a high, slicing shot.

Inverse T-Track and 10-gram adjustable weights

Inverse T-Track

The sole of the M5 driver has an Inverse T-Track that controls ball flight using 2 10-gram weights. A straight channel, perpendicular to the face, controls the height of shots. Slide one or both weights forward to lower ball flight and spin. Launch angle increases as weight is slid toward the back of the track. The “top” of the “T” is curved around the back of the club. Sliding weight toward the toe produces more fade-spin. Move the weight toward the heel to impart more draw-spin. The new design increases the MOI and lowers the CG of the M5 driver by letting weight be moved to the extreme perimeter of the clubhead.

Hammerhead Slot

Hammerhead 2.0

The Hammerhead slot on the sole of the M5 driver allows the face to flex at impact, creating more ball speed. The Hammerhead 2.0 slot is more flexible than the previous version, increasing the size of the sweet spot.

Players Look

The head of the M5 Tour driver is a scant 435cc, a look preferred by better players. The smaller size gives those players the confidence to be able to shape the way they want.
