  • How to Improve Your Putting Technique

    Updated: Oct 16, 2014

The art of putting includes many factors, including different methods, techniques, grips, and of course, the many varieties of putter models. Regardless of which grip, technique or putter you choose, here are two tips that will improve your putting motion.

Many players set up too far from the ball. This causes the ball to be outside of your sight line and promotes excess hand/wrist action during the stroke. Think “close and compact”. Your eyes should be over the ball and your hands, wrists and forearms should be close to the body to promote a steady pendulum-like stroke.

Your head must remain still throughout the stroke, especially during and just after the strike of the ball. Instead of watching your putts, try listening for the ball to hit the bottom of the cup. As you apply these suggestions, remember that there are fundamentals which facilitate good putting, but there is no one particular putting method that is truly the best or correct. Every golfer needs to develop confidence through a personal style and a routine that can be repeated under game situations. Below are some statistics from the PGA Tour. Evaluate the data and see how you compare to the best putters on the planet. If you feel your technique is sound and your equipment is holding you back from putting like the pros, GlobalGolf.com has many new and pre-owned options from which you can choose.
