This year I have ordered a Driver and the p790 4-9 Iron set. Spent over $700 on the set and driver. One of the irons had a loose hosel which was sliding off. I brought this to their attention and they offered $15. I’ve normally had great experiences but it seemed a little underwhelming when you spend that much.

First New Iron Set!

Handicap: 11-15  Plays Golf: I play more than once a week  Dexterity: Right Hand

I have been playing with a hand me down set of Titleist Overside DCI irons since I started playing. I've always been a believer that until I consistently was hitting the ball pure that there was no need to go try out any new irons. After talking to a few friends who are much better than me they convinced me to go hit some new clubs - I was blown away by the improvements.

I have never been a believer in upgrading all of my equipment every single year, but if you are playing 10+ year old clubs it's time to think about the p790's. I'm less impressed by the distance gains (30ish yards per club) and more impressed by the dispersion of miss hits. Before my mis hits would be 20 yards short and way right or left depending on if I hit of the toe/heal, now the ball is typically within 5-10 yards of the distance and not nearly as far either way.

Still plenty of improvements I can make with my ball striking and swing, but these clubs will definitely help scoring moving forward.

Just received my “very good” condition irons. They might as well be mint because there was not one scratch! Great buy, and I will continue to buy from the site!

Best feeling irons I've ever owned. Long with a high flight pattern ... even though individual lofts are stronger than average for a forged iron.

Technology / Specs

TaylorMade P790 irons are distance irons in a package that suits the eye of better players. Read on to learn about the features of these irons.

SpeedFoam Technology

P790 irons have a hollow-body construction. This allows the face to flex more at impact, creating the extra distance. The cavity is filled with TaylorMade’s proprietary material called SpeedFoam.

This rubber-like material has 2 functions. It supports the thin face, helping transfer energy to the golf ball for greater distance. The second function of SpeedFoam is for feel. It dampens vibrations at impact, giving you better feel on shots hit across the face.

Speed Pocket

The face of the P790 irons wraps around to the sole to create a cut-through Speed Pocket that has been a familiar sight in TaylorMade irons. The Speed Pocket is designed to increase ball speed on shots hit across the face, but especially on those hit low. The added ball speed translates to more distance, forgiveness, and consistency on mishits.

Tungsten Weighting

A tungsten weight is placed toward the toe of each iron. The size of each weight is specific to each iron, optimizing the CG location and ball flight in each club. The weight also increase the MOI, boosting forgiveness.

Ultra-thin Face

The face of the P790 irons is made a mere 1.75mm thick. This ultra-thin face flexes more at impact, increasing ball speed on shots hit across the entire face.
