Description

The TaylorMade SLDR S Mini Driver is designed for players that hit their 3-wood off the tee a lot more frequently than from the fairway. As a result, TaylorMade has created a new golf club that incorporates the distance-enhancing low-forward CG and speed pocket technology sized up to a 260cc footprint that is in between a 160cc 3-wood and 460cc driver. The SLDR Mini Driver’s features a larger, deeper club face than a 3-wood giving you more stability and forgiveness on mis-hits while allowing you to tee the ball higher, making it easier to launch off the tee than a 3-wood. The SLDR Mini Driver has a low-forward CG and speed pocket technology, like the rest of TaylorMade’s SLDR metalwoods, leading to more ball speed and less spin giving you more distance when you loft up. The Mini Driver’s sole, smaller than a driver’s, is designed to make it easy to hit this club off the deck. That’s why, even though it’s called a SLDR Mini Driver, you’re going to want to replace your 3-wood with it.

Q
If I have trouble hitting a full length driver, would replacing it with this club make for an easier shot?
asked by James L. on 11/11/2015
A
A mini driver would be a suitable replacement for the longer drivers. The shorter shaft length (it is more similar to a 3-wood length) makes it easier to control than the longer shaft length's of today's drivers, if you struggle with consistency of flight and directional control with the driver.

The way it used to be

Handicap: 6-10  Plays Golf: I play more than once a week  Dexterity: Right Hand

Remember when drivers were 43" or so and you could square em up ? This little gem is perfect, the perfect length, size and trajectory. I use it as driver (not much shorter - maybe 10 yards - from my previous 45" ti monster) and it is a fairway finder. Try it!

This club is an answer to my prayers!! I've had lost of trouble controlling 460 Drivers. The heads are too big and the shafts too long. If I hit them perfect-250-260yds, but perfect hits are few and far between. I've had to develop a great punch shot to get my sprayed drives back into play. Got my SLDR mini 12 degree today and Bingo!!! 12 fairways and 240- 250yds. And, if the drive lands in the short grass, more GIRs and lower scores-fist sub 80 round of the year today

good for slower swing

I'm not sure what to do with this club---it hits very consistent , feels good in hand, and is actually fun to use. Feels heavier than the driver-which I like, you actually know where the club is on the back swing. Problem is, I can only hit 185 yds. with it, which is the same distance as my 5 wood. It DOES NOT hit well off the deck, but on a Tee its great. Perhaps when I'm older? I'm 65 now, so I guess I should stop complaining.....!

Need a strong 3 wood or driver replacement?

This thing was definitely named appropriately, Mini Driver, its longer than a 3 wood and can come close to a driver replacement, long off the tee, but harder to hit from the fairway, but a good replacement for those who struggle with driver!

The SLDR Mini Driver: Accuracy and Distance from the Tee

TaylorMade SLDR Mini Driver Comparison

The SLDR Mini driver precisely blends the characteristics needed to achieve accuracy and distance off the tee. The head size of the SLDR Mini driver measures 260cc, which lands right between the SLDR driver (460cc) and the SLDR fairway wood (160cc). Its smaller head size, compared to the SLDR driver, allows for more control and accuracy off the tee. Its larger head size, compared to the SLDR fairway, allows the Mini driver to maintain driving distance. Without a doubt the SLDR mini driver is the best of both worlds: accuracy and distance.

TaylorMade SLDR Mini Driver Technology

TaylorMade is sticking with its successful technology of the past, and using it in the SLDR mini driver. The thick-thin crown technology varies the depth of the crown, allowing weight to be saved. The weight that’s been saved has been strategically repositioned to create a low and forward center of gravity (CG). The cut-through speed pocket enhances the low and forward CG by promoting fast ball speed and low spin. The inverted cone technology expands the forgiveness of the clubface, allowing mishit golf shots to maintain fast ball speeds.

TaylorMade SLDR Mini Driver Info

The SLDR Mini driver is available in 12, 14, and 16 degrees of loft. The shaft in the SLDR Mini driver is the Fujikura Speeder Shaft with a length of 43.5 inches which will promote excellent control. For those seeking the TP version, the shaft is a Fujikura Motore Speeder shaft. This shaft will be heavier, closer to the weight used in a fairway wood.
