Description

The VR-S Covert irons feature a high speed cavity back design for longer straighter shots. They are constructed of high-strength, ultra-thin stainless steel with NexCOR variable face-thickness technology. The VR-S Covert clubface delivers a high COR face for more distance. The new face construction expands the maximum COR zone around the middle and lower area of the face. The X3X groove pattern features more grooves spaced closer together for maximum contol and more consistent shots. This iron puts super game improvement performance in a player's profile.

Condition Description

Clubs in Very Good Condition have been played with and cared for in an appropriate fashion. The markings that you will likely find on Very Good Condition products will show typical wear of models of its age. All of the wear is purely cosmetic, and will not in any way affect the performance of the club. Among the wear that you may see on clubs in Very Good Condition: NOTE: Some irons are designed to rust over time. This is not considered adverse wear. Normal ball marks on the faces; minor scratching on the soles; no significant dings on the heads; no significant wear on the shafts.

Q
I bought these about a year ago. Great set of irons. They are longer in the shaft length than most irons, which leads to my question... I'm having trouble hitting consistent shots, just like most golfers. Could this be because of the shaft length? Should I consider shortening the shaft? I'm 6' 0''.
asked by Jeremy S. on 1/11/2016
A
The length of the shaft could be playing a role in your difficulties. The longer the club, the more difficult it is to consistently get the club face to square at impact. This is part of the reason that the driver tends to be the most difficult club to hit straight. While shortening the clubs would make it a little easier to square the face at impact, it will also result in a slight decrease in distance.

Q
Currently own the Nike VRS clubs, is there that much difference between them and the coverts?
asked by Perry S. on 11/8/2016
A
Based on the designs of the two sets, there is very little difference. They are both in the category of being a game improvement, forgiving iron set.

Great Irons but beware!!
By MSM on 4/26/2013

I purchased a set and love them but be aware of a few things.

I ordered a set from Nike with "stiff" flex and after receiving them went to my local club-**** and had them tested. My "stiff" irons actually measured out at an "A" or "senior" flex!! So my club-**** (bless his heart) called Nike to complain and had them send me a set of "X-Stiff" irons instead. These only measured out at a "Regular" flex. I gave up and had my club-**** install custom KBS Tour shafts in my clubs. Now that they really are a "Stiff" flex they are awesome.

Another thing to keep in mind with these clubs. The ball flies further because these irons are on average 2 degrees stronger than all the other irons out there. Look up the specs on the Nike website. A 44 degree PW? A 24 degree 5 iron? I had to completely relook at my gaps to make sure I had coverage. This has now forced me to carry a 48 degree wedge and drop my 60 degree wedge. Who wants to carry four wedges?

Great clubs, easy to control, love them lots but there are some issues I wish I had been made aware of before buying them.

Easiest irons I have ever hit!

First review I have ever done. I am a 10 handicap and I have played with blades most of my golf. You can work these irons any way you want, very minimal distance lost on heal and toe shots. They are about a club and a half longer than my previously irons.

Get a pair, you will love them!!

Long and Forgiving, A Great Set of Clubs
By Tom S. on 1/7/2015

Handicap: 6-10  Plays Golf: I play more than once a week  Dexterity: Left Hand

These clubs are brilliant. I purchased a set used, with graphite shafts for less than $200 from Global Golf. I was a bit skeptical based on the price of the clubs and what condition they would be in. When they arrived they were in very nice shape, little abuse. The clubs the first time out performed beautifully, as if these were mine for years. Longer than my previous sets and I found I could shape the ball with ease. Off center hits I only lost a few yards. Very Forgiving! Looking down on the head of the club was appealing to me. Not such a thick top line and the offset, to me, was minimal. The face seems to be hot, where the ball seems to explode, in a moderate to high trajectory. The lofts a bent strong, PW at 44 degrees, compared to some at 47 degrees. A like a lighter weighted shaft, where at 70 grams was perfect for me as I age. All in all a great set of clubs and I would highly recommend to golfers of all handicaps.

Great irons
By Jeff on 11/15/2014

Handicap: 11-15  Dexterity: Right Hand

After reading some reviews these Nike irons I decided to buy a set (along w/ a Covert Driver,3 and 5 wood). The condition they were in was great and as they were described. When I first took them to the driving range I was VERY surprised not only at how easy they were to hit but also at the length. I have consistantly been 2 clubs longer with these irons vs my old set. The shafts on them are longer but that wasn't an issue when it came to learning to hit them. The ball flight is high withsoft landings on the green,
I couldn't imagine a better set of irons.
The clubs arrived very quickly and were packagedvery well. I was very pleased with each transaction I have had with Global Golf. I'll continue to be a customer.

Love the clubs

Plays Golf: I play weekly

I started playing more frequently these last couple of months and tired of using rentals and using my friends coverts I bought my own. They are very forgiving irons and my game has way less double and triple bogeys and more pars. On a budget I bought this set used on here, though the condition rating said "very good" I was really surprised to see how scuffed up and dinged up they were and probably would have marked the condition rating down more. But for the price they are brand new and the price I paid for them can't beat it if your looking for quality clubs on a budget.

Technology / Specs

Nike introduced a landmark change in club design when it brought to its woods the cavity back technology of its irons. While the idea of a High Speed Cavity Back in the VR_S Covert irons isn't as groundbreaking as it is in the woods, the irons still offer incredible advances in technology that make them Nike's most versatile and widely appealing irons to date.

Nike VR_S Covert Irons

Technology

The headlining feature of the VR_S Covert irons is, of course, the High Speed Cavity Back. This technology uses extreme perimeter weighting, meaning that shifts more of the club's weight into the heel and toe to elevate the Moment of Inertia (MOI). This adds forgiveness and boosts ball speeds on more areas across the face. What makes the High Speed Cavity Back especially unique is its "covert" design. By remaining hidden from view, the cavity back gives the iron the high performance of the VR_S iron with less bulk and a sleeker look at address. To counter the harsher feel and sound that can often be produced by irons with less center weight, a softening polyurethane badge has been added behind the sole.

Speaking of bulk, the toplines and soles of the VR_S Covert irons are thinner than those of Nike's original VR_S irons. This engineering makes the Covert irons more playable for more types of players. The no-weld, 1.6mm-thick sole in particular creates a hotter face for faster ball speeds and greater distance.

A more familiar feature of the Nike VR_S Covert irons is the NexCOR face design, which was previously used on 2012's VR_S irons. NexCOR is a variable face thick technology that adds distance through speed. However, the VR_S Covert's NexCOR technology has been enhanced to make the face more flexible and forgiving.

Lastly, the sole of the VR_S Covert irons has a new dual-beveled shape that reduces turf interaction for cleaner shots with less digging.

Style and Design

As mentioned earlier, the hidden cavity back of the VR_S Covert irons gives it a streamlined appearance the sets up nicely at address. The irons also have a black finish at the cavity and etched VR_S and Swoosh emblems, as well as a matte finish.

Nike VR_S Covert Irons

The VR_S Covert long and middle irons are made from 450 Carpenter steel, while the short irons have a 1704 stainless steel construction. All the irons come with your choice of Nike Kuro Kage Black 70 or True Temper Dynalite 90 steel shafts.
