Great Feel and Great Spin
By TJ on 3/9/2011

Have been playing golf for 11 years now, and I have played with many different brands of wedges including Taylormade, Titleist, Cleavland, etc.
I was looking for new wedges and heard great things about Callaway wedges. So far these are my favorite of anything I have tried. I was looking at either the Jaws or the X-Forged so I demoed both and choose the X-Forged, here is why.

I bought both the 52 and 56 degree wedge

1.) Feel - the ball coming off the club face had the same feeling but the X-Forged club head to me had a better weight at the soul of the club where I like. The Jaws felt heavy from the soul to the top line, I did not care for the heavy feeling.

2.) Spin - the Jaws come with the MD groves in all lofts where the X-Forged only comes in the sand wedge and lob wedge. I did notice I spun the 52 Jaws much more than the X-Forged as the X-Forged did not have the MD groves. My 52 is my 105-85yd club. With the Jaws I was only getting 100yd and the harder I swung the more spin I had. The X-Forged kept my same distance. The 56 has the MD and checks up perfectly around the green no matter what lie or how thick the rough.

3.) Price - I shopped around for the best price and found that GlobalGolf had the best prices. I looked through the used section and found the X-Forged in the lie and loft I wanted for $50 a piece, compared to the $119 for the new Jaws. The condition said Mint which I was expecting a little bit of wear on the from being in the store but the Mint looked brand new not a mark on the clubs. I was very happy with my purchase.

Only cons I have are.

1.)The offset seems a little more with these wedges that my other ones but not a major difference where it affects my play.

2.) I wish I would have gotten the 56 with a c-grind (just was not in stock for used at the time) the c-grind would open up the 56 a little bit more, but I really do not think it would have made too much of difference. If you are thinking whether or not to get the c-grind, get the c-grind you will want it if you do not have it.

3.)I really like these wedges and when I want to upgrade again I will most likely have to find a different brand as I do not like the Jaws as they are the newer wedges for Callaway.

Callaway X-Forged White Chrome 58
By Jamie on 3/31/2011

I was looking to upgrade from my Ping Eye 2 wedges, so I looked on here and found the X-forged white chrome 58 lob/sand wedge. I replaced my old 60 with this 58.
Increased spin-I have never had a problem spinning the golf ball, but the mack-daddy grooves help grab it and really spin the ball. This helps with the control when trying to get the ball close.
Balanced feel-The whole club feels very balanced and enhances the feel when making contact.
Bunker performance-I threw out my 56 wedge once I started practicing using the 58 out of the bunker. I can get under the ball nicely and can get it up and over any high lips that I may encounter. This club has made bunker play easy for me once again.
Ball workability-I really like to work the ball with my wedges. This club allows me to draw and cut the ball very easily and effectively.
Chrome Finish-When it is really sunny out the chrome finish produces a pretty bad glare and can affect contact by temporarily blinding you.
Hard to hit-I went from a cavity back wedge straight to this, so it took me a little while to get used to it. I had a few shanks here and there but I eventually got used to the club and rarely shank it now.
Bounce-My 58 has about 12 degrees of bounce, which is great out of the bunker, but on short pitch shots I just don't feel like I get the kind of control or consistency I would like to have. Sometimes the bounce allows the club to slide up under the ball too easily on my pitches which leaves them short.
Factory grip-Obviously the grips that are put on at the factory are not the best, but I figured I would mention that this one is not very good as well. I have really sweaty hands and that combined with humid weather do not bode well for gripping the golf club effectively with a slick grip. I changed my grip to a midsize golf pride multi-compound. That did the trick.
