Arkansas' mascot was the "Cardinal" for several years. The "Razorback," known for its tenacious wild- fighting ability, was adopted after Arkansas coach Hugo Bezdek described his players, following a major victory in 1909, as "a wild team of razorback hogs!" Later, the famed yell, "Whooo, Pig! Sooie!" was adopted. In 1960, "Big Red," a live duroc hog, made his debut. "Big Red" continues to serve as Arkansas' No. 1 Razorback.
