Taylor Made R9 5 Wood Fairway Wood 19° Used Golf Club

I am a high single digit handicap and I don’t want to talk MOI or FCT you can get that from any web site advertising R9 woods. I did my home work, reading reviews and hitting multiple clubs before deciding to buy the R9 Woods. First I was looking for woods that were accurate, long, and forgiving – check. Secondly I wanted clubs that were more traditional looking and confident inspiring with the right feel and sound – check. And lastly I needed a club that would not bust my golf budget, so I bought the R9’s from Global Golf in the form of Open Box and Mint Condition Clubs. The service and the clubs were perfect. Oh by the way, the adjustability of the clubs – Bonus.

First off, this is a good 3 wood. Looks: 5/5 The head is easy on the eyes compared to the some of the v and square shaped clubs coming out these days. It sits square at its neutral setting for me, which I appreciated. Feel/sound: 5/5 The feel is what you want: when struck in the center you barely feel it leave the club. The sound is a quiet "tink", that seems to bring a smile to the face. Forgiveness: 3/5 Not very forgiving, there is significant distance loss for me on off center hits. It is also not very versatile. Stick to the fairway and tee box. I would not recommend it from the rough. Durability: 3/5 On my first outing with this club I remember hitting it a little high on the center of the club. The ball flew off the face, it was a beautiful shot off the tee. I looked down to see where I made contact and sure enough it had chipped on the top line. I did not sky it, I made flush contact, but when the ball compressed on the face it tore part of the paint off. In a months time the crown had plenty of chips. I have played many-a-club in my day, and as far as durability goes, I have come to expect more. Distance: 3/5 I lost a couple yards when I switched from my hibore. I think this might have been due to the stock shaft, which I was not a fan of. Accuracy: 4/5 Once I got used to the shaft, I could really dial in how far I was going to hit it. Lost a point because, long term, I don't want to fit a shaft, I want a shaft to fit me. I really recommend test driving this club first. Once the right shaft is found, you can adjust the loft and openness to your liking. Like I said, it is a good club, however, there are better options out there, in my opinion.

After reading a Golf Magazine article that the average golfer can hit a 4-wood as far as a 3-wood and that it is easier to hit from the fairway, rough and tee-box, I thought I'd give a 4-wood a try. I purchased a TaylorMade R9 from GlobalGolf, because of my overall satisfaction with their service and prices. I've been very satisfied with my decision to substitute the 4-wood for my previous 3-wood. It does everything my 3-wood did only better!

I played this club in a 15* 3-wood for a year before deciding to part ways with it, largely because it didn't serve the purpose I was looking for--which was to give me an option off the tee on days when I'm not hitting my driver well. Unfortunately, I tended to hit it so high that I usually didn't get much more distance out of it than I would out of my 2-hybrid, which I'm more accurate with anyway. I'm really not sure what the issue here was. The club replaced a Big Bertha Warbird 4-wood that I never had a problem hitting high. I thought this would give me more distance than that club, but it definitely did not. As one reviewer noted, the thing feels beautiful when you hit it flush. But it can very disappointing to have that feeling, look up, see that you did hit it perfectly straight, but that its flight is 9-iron high. I'm sure my swing is a large part of the problem, but it just didn't work for me. I did pretty good success with it off the turf, but after a few horrendous efforts out of moderate rough I always felt like I had to have a really good lie in order to have the confidence to use it there. In fact, the tight clipping of the grass on tee boxes made for lies that were thin enough that I never trusted hitting it off the turf from the tee. So in the end, not having confidence in it off of the tee, and not really feeling like I had much use for it in the fairway, meant that it wasn't worth carrying around for 18 holes.
