Description

The Nike VR-S Covert Driver will draw a lot of attention with its distinctive red crown and innovative design. This is the world’s first cavity back driver. The back-middle section of the sole has been removed making the crown more stable and a slightly higher MOI. The CG is slightly forward producing a slightly more boring ball flight. By having more mass in the heel and toe areas, the Covert drivers will resist twisting more effectively on off-center hits and allow you to hit the ball straighter, more often. This driver also features FlexLoft which allows the golfer to adjust the loft and face angle independently. The loft can be adjusted between 8.5 and 12.5 in 1 degree increments and the face angle can be set left (closed), neutral (square), right (open). The NexCOR face technology makes the edges of the face thinner than the center which enlarges the sweet spot. This translates to faster ball speeds across a wider area of the face resulting longer shots.

Birdie Time

I was a very loyal Taylor Made Driver customer and went to my local store to try the new R1 and RBZ. The golf salesman at the location asked me to try the Nike Covert Driver. I ended up hitting it for close to an hour in the store and could not believe the stats on the screen. Hopefully I can lose a stroke or two this spring!

WOW!!!!

I've always been a Nike guy and have owned several drivers from Nike. I was a little apprehensive about spending $299.99 on a driver, but boy am I glad I did. I was averaging 250 yards with my old VR str8 fit, now I am AVERAGING 275 yards, with a few 300 yard blasts. Plus they are a lot straighter, even with mis hits. AAAA++++

Handicap: 6-10  Plays Golf: I play more than once a week  Dexterity: Left Hand

Only took 4 days to get here, exceptional fast service.
Living in Canada I was unaware of the duties I had to pay at the door, would have been nice to know. Other then that I bought the club in "good" condition, and the club is actually in "mint" condition, it doesn't look like it has even be hit. Great Stuff, looking to buy more from Global Golf.

POW!
By Dan on 4/22/2014

Dexterity: Right Hand

I'm not a good golfer. I don't know my handicap and haven't broken 100, barely breaking 110. But like all of you, regardless of skill, I sure do enjoy trying to be a good golfer.

I asked for this driver for Christmas last year. I got it and couldn't wait to give it a try. The winter was busy, with our first born on the way, so I didn't have time to do much more than adjust the loft and line up on an imaginary tee box in the living room on Christmas morning.

Golf season finally came around and I found myself out in the very early morning in mid April for my first round.

And wouldn't you know it, because I had told my buddies how excited I was about the new driver, they had me tee up first.

I stood there, knowing that I had never taken it to the range, never swung it in a proshop or store simulator...nothing. I hadn't even taken a practice swing here at the course. Heck, I barely stretched. I was worried that maybe it was dumb to have selected this club based only on it's own advertising and a handful of youtube reviews.

In the cool morning air, I lined up, pulled back, and POW!

Not my best shot. But I ended up on the fairway with what I thought was good distance for me. My 3 peers all proceeded to shank left and right.

On the second hole? POW! I Really got a hold of this one. And boy did it go straight.

The long par 3 10th? The one that you have to drive because it's uphill and going get caught by the wind anyway? The one I've never greened? Well I still didn't green it. I went 20 feet past it.

This review doesn't sound true. I didn't think a driver could make this much of a difference, but it did for me (granted I had a hand-me-down-off-brand driver from 1998 prior). I hit more fairways in this round than ever before, conservatively gaining 15-30 yards on each drive.

In fact it highlighted how poor the rest of my game is. I'd crush a monster drive to about 40 yards from the pin and proceed to take 5 more strokes, but man...did it feel good.

And truth-be-told, my first round this year, was lower than any round I did all of last summer.

the candied apple red is gorgeous. the gun shot sound of a good connection is satisfying.

I'm sad to see the price drop because I don't want to see more or this club on the course. I want it to be my secret weapon.

Covert-left handed driver-nice

First, hats off to Global Golf. Exceptional customer service, fair prices and lightning shipping.

Still cold here in the east, but I had to try the club. The cherry red inspires confidence, and my 16 hdcp said 'thank you very much' for a very nice club.

I set the face @ 10.5 neutral, and my left handed swing was rewarded by this Nike club.

The ball had a super shape and flight, and it got out and up in a hurry. Sounded great, not 'clubby,' and I expect to gain serious yardage this year.

Great product, and company. Highly recommend both.

Introducing the Nike VR_S Covert Driver

Nike VR_S Covert Driver

With the introduction of the VR_S Covert series, Nike Golf has brought cavity-back technology to drivers, fairways and hybrids. This seemingly simple engineering concept completely changes the way woods and hybrids perform on both professional and amateur levels. Its technological changes are matched with a striking visual design to make it even more unique.

Technology

The VR_S Covert is the world's first High Speed Cavity Back driver that complies with USGA and R&A rules. The breakthrough cavity back technology strategically positions weight to the heel and toe, increasing the MOI (Moment of Inertia). This creates more stability and energy when the driver makes contact with the ball, resulting in greater distance. You won't be able to see the cavity without looking at the sole, though – it's concealed by the crown to make its performance potential truly "covert".

Another technological advancement in the VR_S Covert is its intuitive FlexLoft feature, a dual-axis adjustment system with an easy-to-use pull, turn and push/tighten mechanism. The 3 face settings and 5 loft settings (ranging from 8.5 to 12.5 degrees) give you a total of 15 options you can independently dial in to work with course conditions and your own playing style.

The VR_S Covert also comes with a more familiar feature: NexCOR technology. Previously used on the VR_S STR8-FIT driver, NexCOR is a variable face thickness that creates a more expansive hitting zone on the face. This means that you get faster ball speeds from more positions on the face. The combined forces of the cavity back, FlexLoft and NexCOR make the VR_S Covert both powerful and extremely playable.

Style and Design

At Nike, innovation trumps tradition. The VR_S Covert follows that philosophy with its mix of a traditionally shaped head and the new cavity back design. The rich red paint scheme and angular cavity shape give the driver a high-performance look that matches its cutting-edge technology. The red crown also sets it apart visually from other drivers on the market. As a final touch, Nike's placed white Swoosh emblems on the sole and heel that act like an artist's signature.

Nike VR_S Covert Driver

VR_S Covert Tour

The Nike VR_S Covert Tour has the same cavity back, adjustable hosel, FlexLoft and NexCor technologies as the standard Covert model, but there are two key differences. One is that while the Covert has a 460cc head and a deeper face, the Covert Tour has a 430cc head, a wider face and a fixed weight screw. The other difference is that the Tour model's face has a black finish instead of the standard model's chrome finish. Both models feature the new Mitsubishi Kuro Kage shaft, which is made with high-density carbon fiber to enhance control and generate more power.

The VR_S Covert driver is definitely the most advanced driver Nike's released in years, and even the company itself is calling it "the most innovative club Nike Golf has ever produced." PGA and LPGA pros like Jhonattan Vegas, Paul Casey and Suzann Petersen are already raving about it. The cavity may be covert, but there's nothing subdued about its stunning design. The VR_S Covert is set to be a game changer, and there's little doubt that it will be.
